Rock On the Range – Colombus, OH – May 17th 2015

At long last, Linkin Park's summer North American tour has kicked off! After an exceptional first show at the first Rock in Rio USA last week, the band's first full show of the tour is just on the horizon! On Sunday, May 17, Linkin Park will close out this year's three-day Rock On The Range in Columbus, Ohio.

Let's learn some history. Despite not performing there for seven years now, this will be the band'sNINTH performance in Columbus! Wow! Once in 2000 (as well as a cancelled show due to Chester having a family emergency), three times in 2001 (123), 2003, twice in 2004 (12), and, most recently, in 2008. Let's start from the beginning: the first show in 2000 was the opening show of Papa Roach's 'Master Bay' Tour. It was the only show on the tour that Chester joined (həd) p.e. for a song - on 'Bartender'. The band returned in April 2001 on their Street Soldier Tour with the likes of Taproot and Alien Ant Farm, and again on the critically acclaimed Ozzfest in the summer. The band returned one last time in 2001 on the Ozzfest, when Chester joined Stone Temple Pilots for 'Dead & Bloated' - 12 years before he became their lead singer! The band didn't return until the summer of 2003 - fresh off of the beginnings of the Meteora touring cycle - on Metallica's 'Summer Sanitarium' Tour. The first Columbus show of 2004 was earlier in the year, in January, when the band toured with P.O.D., Hoobastank, and Story Of The Year. The band returned for the final Meteora tour: Projekt Revolution later that year, on the second show of the tour. On the tour, the band played many songs that are still live fan-favorites in the community: The 'Figure.09' Blood, Anger, Suffering Outro Transition into 'From The Inside', the Hip-Hop Medley featuring 'Step Up', 'Nobody's Listening' and 'It's Goin' Down', and a cover of 'Wish' by Nine Inch Nails, to name a few. The band returned in the winter of 2008 on the Minutes To Midnight touring cycle, where Chester pulled off the full scream for 'Given Up' for the third time! An extensive history in Columbus, but definitely a memorable one.

The band's show in Rock In Rio USA last week had the whole fanbase reacting. Fresh off of a broken ankle AND a recently completed tour with Stone Temple Pilots, Chester is in top shape! Regardless of the fact that it was the first ever edition of the festival in the United States, the band debuted a new setlist, packed with surprises. The band kicked off the fun right away, debuting a brand new intro for 'Papercut' and opening the show with it - the first time 'Papercut' was performed in full since the Download Festival in 2014, when the band performed Hybrid Theory in full. Following that, perhaps the greatest surprise of the night - the band debuted a brand new song fromThe Hunting Party at this show - 'A Line In The Sand'! This song was perhaps the most demanded song to be performed live off of the album, and the band knew! The song came out amazingly in a live environment, as expected. The full version of 'New Divide' was performed for the second time on the entire cycle - the first being atWarped Tour last year. 'Waiting For The End' seems to have been moved to an encore spot, appearing after 'Faint' on the setlist - we'll see if that proves to be true at this show. The fan-favorite Wall Of Noise Outro was added back to the song after being dropped from the previous tour - a great addition! Aaron Pauley from Of Mice & Men joined the band for the Ballad Medley and Austin Carlile joined them for 'Faint', as they had done on the past two tours! 'Bleed It Out' featured an improvised sing-a-long (perhaps by mistake) instead of the regular 'The Catalyst' sing-a-long. All these surprises, and that wasn't even the full version of the set! That's going to debut at this show - what songs do you think the band will add to the setlist? Will 'Guilty All The Same', 'Rebellion', 'Final Masquerade', and/or 'Until It's Gone' return? Or will fan-favorites like 'From The Inside' and 'A Place For My Head' take up their positions? Time will tell!

Check out this video of the live debut of 'A Line In The Sand' at Rock In Rio! It's the first song since 'Castle Of Glass' that we've had a proshot of a song's debut. How do you think it translated live? The band performed it with an extended keyboard intro and at a slightly slower tempo.

Watch the full show here - other highlights include the awesome new 'Papercut' intro and the guest spots on the Ballad Medley and 'Faint'!

Make sure you don't miss the live coverage - here's a countdown to the event in case you need it!

Let's not forget the other bands on this massive bill! Joining Linkin Park on the main stage are Rise Against, Volbeat, Halestorm, Anthrax, The Pretty Reckless, and Hollywood Undead. Rise Against performed at Rock In Rio USA too - though, no collaboration on 'Bleed It Out' with Tim McIlrath this time. Though, he did join Deftones for their song 'Passenger' during their set (which, might I add, was EXCELLENT! Check it out if you're a fan). Maybe Tim will come out at this show! Other bands on the bill include Periphery, Marmozets, Tech N9ne, Starset, and many more - check out the full lineup here!

Who's heading to the show? There is a possibility AXS TV will be adding Linkin Park's set to their live coverage - more information will come on that as we approach the date of the event. After this show, the band takes a week break before heading down south to perform two more festival shows - Rocklahoma in Oklahoma and the Bud Light River City Rockfest in Texas. A number events are happening before this show, too - Chester will be performing with Stone Temple Pilots the day before this show in Camden, New Jersey at the WMMR*B*Q (discussion here) and Mike may possibly (though, unlikely) perform with Steve Aoki at a show in Los Angeles. Linkin Park news has been rolling in steadily lately - the band just announced a five-show tour in China, Steve Aoki just released 'Darker Than Blood' on his new album Neon Future II, and Fort Minor rumors are still bustling! - After being dropped on the Winter North American Tour earlier in the year, 'Rebellion' returned to the setlist.
- 'Breaking The Habit' was performed for the first time since 2013.8.19 Kuala Lumpur.
- A shortened version of 'Darker Than Blood' was performed for the first time, featuring only the 1st verse acapella and synth.
- 'Burn It Down' featured a new extended synth outro by Mike. Joe messed up the outro samples.
- Mike went into the crowd during 'In The End'.
- The extended intro of 'Bleed It Out' was played a lot longer than usual. During the bridge, Chester conducted a sing-a-long with the crowd.

Other Notes:
- Brad was not at the show. His tech, Benjamin Chandler filled in for him. This had happened on the touring cycle already - when the band performed on the Circuito Banco do Brasil in 2014, Brad could not travel to Brazil due to an ear infection.
- The name of the venue changed from Crew Stadium to MAPFRE Stadium in March 2015, between the date the show was announced and when the show occurred.

Debuts:
- This was the first time 'Darker Than Blood' was performed live. Steve Aoki had performed snippets of it in past live shows, but never with any live elements.
