As previously mentioned
before, an upcoming album from Steve Aoki,
Neon Future, Part 2 will feature Linkin Park.
Billboard
had a chance to spend the day with Steve Aoki and in the article they
mentioned the song that Linkin Park worked on with Steve and also
briefly mentioned Mike Shinoda. The song is called
Horizons (not yet confirmed as the final title), Aoki said it’s been a work in progress since 2012. He mentioned Mike Shinoda
rewrote the lyrics because it sounded to happy and he wanted to make it darker. Quotes below:
Aoki is in the lab. He’s downstairs at WM Studios — a Las Vegas studio
just 20 minutes from the Strip, and a short drive from his home. Aoki
plays a song with the (as yet unconfirmed) title “Horizons,” a collaboration with Linkin Park for his upcoming album.
It has been a work in progress since 2012, which he admits is obsessive
even for him. He pulls up the original mix on his laptop and plays it
over the house speakers. They might as well be different songs.
“I threw out the drop because it didn’t fit,” he says. “And
[Linkin Park rapper] Mike [Shinoda] rewrote the lyrics because he was
like, ‘They’re too happy.’ He wanted to make it darker.”
Asked if the two versions have anything in common, Aoki thinks for a moment and then says, “They’re both in the same key.”
Here’s
another quote of the song that I don’t believe we had mentioned previously:
“’Horizons’ definitely has the definitive ‘Neon Future’
sound,” teases AOKI of his forthcoming single with Linkin Park that will
appear on Part 2 of NEON FUTURE. “It’s not quite done yet, but it’s the
track I have worked on the most of all the songs on the album and I
can’t wait for people to hear it,” he says.
